Theory

First Paper

(1). Critical study of texts relating to Orissa dance in particular and other Indian dances in pracheen , madhyakalin and aadhunik yug.

(2). Detailed biography and contribution of famous artists of Odissi dance.

(3). Critical study of the origin and development of Odissi dance in different kaal.

  • Detailed knowledge of the colors and costumes used in Odissi dance.
  • Changes in costumes in pracheen , madhyakalin and aadhunik yug and what were the reasons for these changes?

(4). Comparison between dance, drama and dance. Origin of drama. Relationship of dance drama and dance in Indian life.

(5).Detailed and critical study of Odissi lok nirtya and their comparison with other folk dances of different regions.

(6).-

(7). Origin and development of curls. Ghungroos and ghungroos in Odissi dance means a means to bring about the best effect.

(8). Detailed study of all Indian classical dances, their origin and development.

(9) Relationship between vocal and instrumental music and detailed study of Odissi dance instruments.

(10). Relation of Odissi dance with painting, sculpture and other lalit kala.

(11). Detailed study of baile and opera.

(12) Decline of the arts in general and dance in particular in the 17th and 18th centuries.

(13). Definition of Mandal, its various aspects and importance in Odissi dance in particular and other dances in general.

Second Paper

(1).Detailed Orissa study of the lipi, knowledge of writing all the taals and bol of dance in swarlipi in different laykari.

(2). Suggestions for creating a new swarlipi paddhati.

(3). Detailed and critical study of the distinctions and differences between nayak and nayika.

(4).Place of nayak and nayika in Odissi dance.

(5). Detailed and critical study of hand gestures and their use in Odissi dance.

(6). Relation of mudra with ras and bhav.

(7).Detailed study and historical background of Lasya and Tandav, their different distinctions, their importance in Odissi dance and their impact on human life.

(8) Origin of Raas nirtya, its history and development and place of costumes, stage lighting and instrumental group in it and their mutual relation.

(9).

  • Detailed and critical study of various aspects of Odissi dance form.
  • Place of ras and bhav in Odissi dance, need of stage lighting, musical instruments and costumes for Odissi dance.

(10). Comparative study of all classical dances, their costumes, colors, stage lighting, musical instruments, style, ras, bhav and mudra etc.

(11). Comparative study of lok nirtya of different regions of India, their characteristics and their impact on human life.

(13). Detailed and critical study of various aspects of abhinay and relation between abhinay and nirtya.

(14). Definition of Chari, its various aspects and importance in Odissi dance, and relation to Ras and Bhav.

Practical

(1). Practical knowledge of any two of the following:-

               A: Aadhunik nritya.

               B: Tagore nritya.

               C: Udayashankar nritya saili.

               D: Raas nirtya.

(2) Ability to perform five types of lok nirtya from different regions of India.

(3). Ability to perform the salient features of any one of the following classical dances:- Kuchipudi, Kathakali or Kathak.

(4).Performance performance of all Odissi lok nirtya.

(5).Practical knowledge of the use of Ang, Pratyang and Upang  in Odissi dances.

(6).Practical demonstration of use of Karan, Anghar in Odissi dance.

(7).Practical demonstration of all the mudra  used in Odissi dance.

(8). Practical aspects of Lasya and Tandav and their importance in Orissa dance.

(9). Demonstration of all the distinctions of nayak  and nayika and their use in Orissa dance.

(10). Ability to perform various ras and bhav and their importance in Odissi dance.

(11). Ability to perform dance on compositions based on Odissi Purana.

Stage performance

 (1).Beautiful performance by the candidate in any taal with different aspects of Odissi dance in different taals for 45 minutes.
