Opera

  • Song drama (Geetinataka) is called Opera. Opera originated in 1594 in the city of Florence, Italy, with the performance of an opera called “La Daphne”, although the presenters of this opera themselves did not know that they were unknowingly giving birth to an important art form.
  • Many interpretations of the opera were presented in the last four centuries. But on the basis of tradition and experience, it is believed that opera is a lyric drama, in which singing is done in place of dialogue.
  • Opera was born in Italy, so Italy’s dominance over all its parts was natural. But the talent of France and Germany was also involved in beautifying and developing the opera, so the opera flourished in many branches over time.

  • Opera was first performed in Florence. The opera whose script is available today was also performed there – “Euridice”, in 1600 AD.
  • After this, the city of Venice became the biggest center of Opera. Artists from all over Europe used to visit this city and were grateful to see the great operas.
  • A public opera house was established in Venice in 1637, due to which opera was gradually commercialized. Now opera became a means of income instead of just being a hobby.
  • Opera has been the national artistic industry of Italy. Venetian music, decoration, acting etc. were considered as evidence.
  • Even on the stage of France, this wonderful form of art was staged by German musicians in Italian grand decorations.
  • The language of the opera was initially Italian French. Later on, French language also became popular.
  • But in other countries the language of opera remained Italian. Italy’s influence in this area was so much that many times even non-Italian operas used to keep their name Italian.
