Theory

First Paper

(1).Detailed study of all technical terms related to Odissi dance.

(2). Comparative study of Indian and Western dances and the impact of Western dances on Indian dances.

(3). Critical study of Odissi dance existing in Pracheen, Madhyakalin and Aadhunik yug.

(4). Principles and characteristics of Pracheen and modern dance compositions.

(5).Development of ras- sthai bhav, sanchari bhav, anubhav, vibhav etc. in particular in Odissi dance and generally performed in other dances.

(6). Critical study of pracheen granth related to Indian classical dances with special reference to Odissi dance.

(7). Ability to write essay related to Indian classical and lok nirtya.

(8). Origin, development and characteristics of Odissi dance.

(9). Knowledge of lok nirtya of Eastern India.

(10). Detailed knowledge of all combined hand gestures and their use in Odissi dance.

(11).Detailed study of movement of different parts of the body in relation to Indian dance, especially Odissi dance.

(12). A detailed study of the history of the Indian stage in the Pracheen, Madhyakalin and Aadhunik yug with special emphasis on Orissa dance stage.

Second Paper

(1).Detailed study of Abhinay with its four limbs and its importance in dance, especially in Orissa dance.

(2). Detailed study of various characteristics of Lasya and Tandav.

(3). Knowledge of Indian and Western swar lipi paddhati.

(4).Origin of taal, relation of taal and lay with dance.

(5).Principles and reactions of solo dance, duet dance and group dance.

(6).Knowledge of writing all taals used in Odissi dance in different laykari.

(7). Detailed study of the origin of various classical dances, their comparison and characteristics.

(8). Comparative study of South Indian and North Indian taal paddhati.

(9). Comparative study of Odissi, Southern and Northern Taal paddhati.

(10). Forms of lay in India and abroad and their use in dances.

(11). Comparative study of dances development in India from the Mughal period to the modern period.

(12). Practice of writing essays on various aspects related to Indian classical dances.

Practical

(1). Practice of performing various laykari by clapping tali on hands.

(2). Ability to perform some lok nritya of madhya and North India.

(3). Working knowledge of any one of the following dance styles:- Bharat Natyam and Manipuri.

(4). Ability to perform correctly and efficiently the various taals used in Odissi dance.

(5). Ability to perform Practical differences in pracheen and aadhunik taal of Odissi dance.

(6).Ability to perform dance postures found in Konark, Bhubaneswar and Jagannath temples.

(7). Ability to create dance drama based on pracheen and aadhunik themes.

(8).Performance performance of Orissa raags and ragani.

(9).Practice of all movements of Odissi dance.

(10). Practical demonstration of various aspects of the circle.

(11). Practical demonstration of various aspects of Chari.

(12). Practice of Padhant.

Stage performance

(1). The candidate will have to give a perfect performance on stage of various aspects of Odissi dance for 45 minutes.
