Theory

First Paper

(1). Comparative study of Padam, Shabdam and Javali in Kuchipudi dance.

(2). Branches of Kuchipudi dance – complete information about Natyamela and Nattuyavamela

(3).Description about the inner soul and outer soul of the dancer.

(4). Kuchipudi Yakshaganam – History, Traditional Role, Four Types of Abhinay.

(5).Comparative discussion in the following:-

  • Kuchipudi Yakshaganam
  • Melatur Yakshaganam
  • Karnataka Yakshaganam

(6).Kalapam Ashtapadi, full information of tarangam and names of poets.

(7).Detailed description of the practice of men playing female characters in mythological traditional dance drama.

(8). Comment on the following:-

(9). Essay on relationship between Yakshaganam, Bhagavatam and Kuchipudi dance.

(10). Information about history, origin and progress of lighting system. Progress in lighting in pracheen , madhyakalin and aadhunik kaal.

(11). Comparative study in dance, drama and nritta. Origin of drama, dance, relation of drama and dance with human life and their importance in dance.

Second Paper

(1).Definition of Abhinay and its various aspects. Comparative study in Abhinay nirtya and dance.

(2) Relation of dance with painting, sculpture and other lalit kala.

(3).Relation of paintings and sculptures of Ajanta, Ellora caves with Indian classical dances.

(4).History, characteristics of western dances. Names of some famous dance artists and their place in western dances.

(5) Relation between Ras and Bhav, their impact on human life and place of Ras and Bhav in Kuchipudi dance.

(6). Comparative study of Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Odissi and Kuchipudi dance

(7).Role and contribution of poets Rabindranath Tagore and Uday Shankar in aadunik nirtya.

(8). Complete knowledge of modern Indian dance art.

(9).Complete information of spiritual background related to Kuchipudi dance

(10). The place of mudra in Indian dance ,especially in Kuchipudi dance, knowledge of their use in different dances and their relation with Ras and Bhav.

Practical

(1). Ability to display scenes from Usha Parinayam or Prahlad Charitham in sequence.

(2).Ability to act on any creation of Hindi, Telugu or Sanskrit.

(3). Practice of reading jati in different taals.

(4).Practice of performing on any Tarangam of Narayana Tirtha and ability to perform various types of layakari standing on the corners of the brass plate.

(5). The practice of giving a presentation on the basis of any type of Nayak.

(6). Gopika Vastraharanam or Draupadi Vastraharanam respectively.

(7).Presentation of—

  • Ananda Tandavam of Lord Shiva
  • Shiva Stuti

(8).Practice of any two new compositions composed by your teacher or organization

Stage Performance:-

(1). The candidate must have practiced for 25 minutes in performing various aspects of Kuchipudi dance on the basis of any taal prescribed in the syllabus.
