Theory

(1).Types of songs – detailed description of Tappa, Thumri,Tarana, Tirvat, Chaturang, Bhajan, Geet, Ghazal etc., Raag-Ragini paddhati ,paddhati  of Aadhunik Alap-singing, description of different types of Taan, use of Vivadi swar, Nibaddh of songs Pracheen type Prabandh, Vastu etc.) Atidhatu Anibaddh gaan, Adhvadarshak swar. 

(2).Division of twenty-two (22) shruti into swars (Aadunik and Pracheen opinion), relation of the length of the drawn string with the height-lowness of the Naad.

(3). Comparison of swars of southern and northern Hindustani paddhati, importance of vadi-samvadi and purvanga-uttrang in determining the time-cycle of raags, Chhayalag and Sankirn raags, Parmel Praveshak raags, time-cycle of raags.

(4). Composition of 32 thaats from North Indian Saptak, pracheen names of aadhunik thaats, Tirobhav-Aavirbhav, Alpatva-Bahutva .

(5).Subtle comparative study of raags and raag-identification.

(6). Comparative study of both Vishnu Digambar and Bhatkhande swarlipi. Practice writing songs in both styles. Practice of writing Dhamar and Dhrupad in Dugun, Tigun and Chaugun swarlipi.

 (7).Biography of Bharat, Ahobal, Vyankatamakhi and Mansingh and description of their musical works.

(8). Mathematical method to find out the starting place of Dugun , Tigun ,Chaugun of all taals of the syllabus. Apart from Dugun, Tigun and Chaugun, practice of writing various other laykari in Taal-lipi.

Practical

(1).Special practice of swargyan. Knowledge of singing and recognizing difficult swar.

(2).Special knowledge of mixing tanpura and tabla.

(3).Demonstration of various lay by clapping with the help of numbers or swar –Dugun (two matra in one matra), Tigun (3 in 1), Chaugun (4 in 1), Aad (3 in 2 and opposite of Aad, recitation 2 matra in 3), Paungun (3 in 4) and Savagun (5 in 4) ) Display of matra.

(4). Difficult and beautiful practice of Alap and Taans.

 (5).Raag –

  • Jaijaiwanti

  • Marwa
  • Multani
  • Sohni
  • Bahar
  • Purvi.

In these ragas, 1-1 Vilambit and Drut khayal and including Alap,Taan, Boltaan.

 (6).Ability to sing 1-1 Dhrupad in any two of the above mentioned raags and 1-1 Dhamar in any two including only Thah, Dugun, Tigun, and Chaugun and one Tarana.

 (7).Special proficiency in singing Khayal.

(8).Practice recitation Jat and Ada Chartaal perfectly. General knowledge of Tappa and thumri theka.

 (9).Identification of raag by groups of swars.

(10).To show equality and diversity in raags in singing.
