Shankara raag  is believed to have originated from Bilawal thaat.Re & Ma are not used in aaroh and only Ma is not used in the avaroh. Its jati is Audav-Shadav. All the swars are used as shudha in this raag .In this raag Pa & Sa are Vadi & Samvadi swar .The singing time of this raag is midnight is 12 am to 3 am.

Important notes:-

1.This is Utrang pradhan raag and it’s playing in utar ang of octave and higher octave mostly.

2.Mostly meend are used to coming from Gandhar to higher Sa in avaroh and Rishabh kept small.

3.It is clear from seeing Shankara’s aaroh the use of Dhaivat is curve rather than straight. From seeing that Dhaivat should not count in jati of aaroh. If we do not use Dhaivat then four swar are left. According to rules five swar are necessary in aaroh and avarodh of each raag. So Dhaivat are used in aaroh.

4.Firstly take particle of Re while coming from Pa to Ga after that Ga is used.
