Adana Raag is believed to have originated from Asavari thaat. In this raag Ga(k) Dha(k) & Ni(k) are used as komal swar and both the Nishad are used. Ga is not used in aaroh and Wakra in avaroh,so its jati is Shadav-Sampurn(5,6). In this raag Sa* & Pa are Vadi & Samvadi swar .The singing time of this raag is 12 am to 3 am(the third part of the day).

Important Notes:-

1. Explanation of this raag is not found in ancient sanskrit granth. This raag mentioned in ‘Raag Tarangini’ write by lochan kavi of medieval. It’s proove this raag is born and developed in medieval period.

2.Before some time some singer was use shudh dhaivat (Dha) in Adana. But now follower of this faith are almost Nil.

3.Seeing Adana’s Avroh, it’s turn out that gandhar swar is absolutely forbidden in Aaroh, but it is not. Sometimes komal gandhar is less used in Aaroh, As- Ni(k) Sa   Ga(k) Ma. But in Avroh komal Ga is curve use-As- Ga(k) Ma Re Sa. Gandhar is forbidden in Aaroh of Adana that time when sarang organ are used. Aaroh of sarang organ is more popular.

4.Some singers believe in this is combination of megh and kanhda or sughrai kanhda and sarang.

5.Sudh Ni are used in Aaroh and in Avaroh komal Ni (k). Sometimes komal Ni also used in aaroh, As- Ma Pa Ni Dha(k) Ni(k) Re Sa*.

6.This is playing in middle and higher octaves. Therefore it’s start with Madhyam and Nishad of middle octave and Rishabh of higher octave mostly.

7.This is utrang pradhan raag.

8.It is one of 18 types of kanhda. Which is more popular as comparison to others.
