First paper

(1).Knowledge of all technical terms from first year to fifth year.

(2).Classification of Gram, Murchhana, Jati and Raags in the Madhya kal.

(3).Introduction to song types:- Brahma Sangeet, Avatar Gaan, Geet, Bhajan and Ghazal.

(4).Importance of lok geet.

(5).Bhava Sangeet and Western sangeet.

(6).Lok geet and shastriya sangeet .

(7).Classification of Indian instruments.

(8). Vrindvadan and Bhav Sangeet.

(9).Raag Pradhan geet and regionallok geet.

(10).Aadhunik instruments and their utility in Bhav Sangeet.

(11).Biography-

Second Paper

(1).Status of music in Pracheen, Madhya and Aadhunik kal.

(2).Complete knowledge of Bhajan and Thumri singing.

(3).Effect of Ras in Geet or Ghazal.

(4).Generation of Swar by Tanpura.

(5).Complete knowledge of harmonium instrument.

(6).Northern and Southern sangeet paddhati.

(7).Knowledge of musical instruments.

(8).Thoughts on the language of lok geet.

(9).Writing taals prescribed in the syllabus in Dugun, Chugun and Aadi  laykari.

(10).Thorough familiarity with the Raags prescribed in the syllabus and the ability to show Aavirbhav and Tirobhav  in them.

(11).Complete information of ‘Saran Chatushtayi’.

(12).Importance of throat in music.

(13).Ability to write essay on musical topics.

Practical

(1).It is necessary to sing Chota Khayal in the following raags:

  • Sohni
  • Shahana
  • Gorakh Kalyan
  • Madhuwanti
  • Malgunji
  • Bhatiyar

(2).It is compulsory to sing Thumri in Pilu and Pahari raags.

(3).Singing in any Raga with Dhrupad Dugun and Aadi Laykari is mandatory.

(4).Practice singing the following songs:-

  • For Bangali language speakers – Meera Bhajan (two), Tulsidas Bhajan (two), Brahmanand Bhajan (two), Kabir Bhajan (two), Ghazal (two), Dadra (two), Sargam Geet (two), (must be in Kalavati, Bhopal Todi, Maru Vihag Dhani and Gara raags)
  • For other language speakers – Meera Bhajan (two), Surdas Bhajan (two), regional folk song (two), Kajri (two), Thumri (two), Kabir Bhajan (two), Ghazal (one), Raag prescribed- Kalavati, Bhopal Todi, Maru Bihag, Gara and Dhani Sargam Gati Do.

(5).Knowledge of Taal Jhumra, Sulfak and Shikhar Taal and practice of recitation the bol of their theka by showing tali khali on hand.

(6).Ability to perform only as a raga in the following ragas (Khayal

(7).Ability to perform in the following raags only in raag format (not required to sing Khayal):

  • Raag Madhuvanti
  • Abhogi Kanada
  • Chandrakouns
  • Bilas Khani Todi.

(8).The composition of the song, bhajan, qawwali etc. performed by the students should be his own.

(9).Singing with Tanpura is compulsory.

Note:- The syllabus of previous years will be combined.

Stage Performance:-

(1).Impressive stage performance for 45 minutes for the candidate.
