Theory

First paper

(1).Knowledge of all the terminologies prescribed in the syllabus of previous years.

(2).Introduction to types of songs –Samuh gaan, Birha, regional lok geet, Chaiti and Jhumur.

(3).Complete introduction to Dholak, Khol and Tabla instruments and their usefulness in singing

(4).Comparison of Murchhana and aadhunik thaats.

(5).Complete introduction to Tappa singing.

(6).Difference between Holi, Bhajan and Geet.

(7).Importance of music in human life.

(8).Vedic and Pauranik sangeet .

(9). Sangeet ke sanatan bhav.

(10).Progress of Music in India.

Second Paper

(1).Complete introduction to the raags of the course and showing the Alpatva ,Bahutva,Avirbhav,Nirobhav in them.

(2).Knowledge of Southern and Hindustani taal paddhati.

(3).Effect of different taals played along with the song on the song.

(4).Writing the swar and taal lipi baddh of a song or ghazal.

(5).Rules for singing Dhrupad and Khayal.

(6).Knowledge of western swarlipi.

(7).Importance of Shruti in singing.

(8).Difference between Gayak and Nayak.

(9).Complete introduction to Gamak.

(10).Writing taals prescribed in the syllabus in different laykari.

Practical

(1).It is necessary to sing Chota Khayal in the following raags:-

  • Barwa
  • Jangla
  • Bengal Bhairav
  • Dev Gandhar
  • Sur Malhar
  • Rageshree.

(2).It is necessary to sing Bhajan in Raag Mishra Shivranjani and Thumri in Raag Mishra Khamaj.

(3).Complete knowledge of Tappa and Kirtan singing.

(4).It is mandatory to sing one Dhrupad in any raag with Dugun, Aadi and Biadi laykari.

(5).Practice singing the following songs:-

  • For Bangala language speakers – Meera Bhajan (two), Brahmananda Bhajan (two), Regional folk song (two), Chaiti (two), Dadra (two), Ghazal (two), Ramdas Padavali (two), Rabindra Sangeet (two)
  • For other language speakers- Meera Bhajan (two), Surdas Bhajan (two), Kajri (two), Thumri (two), Ghazal (two), Kabir Bhajan (two), Geet (two).

(6). Ability to perform only as a raag in the following raags (no need to sing)-

  • Shivmat Bhairav
  • Chandni Kedar
  • Kafi Kanhra
  • Basant Bahar.

(7).Knowledge of Gajjhamma and Shikhar Taals, and ability to compose songs, bhajans and ghazals in these Taals, practice recitation the bol by showing tali khali on hand.

(8).Compulsory to sing with Tanpura.
