• Shruti Sadolikar Katkar is an Indian classical style of ancient style of Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. He is the recipient of the Music Drama Academy Award for Hindustani Singing Music in 2011.

Early Life –

• Sadolikar was born in 1951 in a family in Kolhapur known for its musical tradition.
• He received training in Indian classical music since childhood. His early training was given by his father Vamanrao Sadolikar, who was taught by Alladiya Khan, the founder of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana, and his son Bhurji Khan.
• After studying with his father, Sadolikar learned music for twelve years from Gulubhai Jasdanwala, who was known for his large collection of raga compositions, including compositions in rare ragas.
• Sadolikar earned a master’s degree from SNDT Women’s University in Mumbai and wrote a thesis on Haveli Sangeet, a type of temple music.

Career–

• Sadolikar performs all forms of Indian classical and semi-classical music including Thumri, Tappa and Natya Sangeet.
• In 1999, Sadolikar produced a play called “Sangeet Tulsidas”, for which he composed the music, and he performed for Spic Mac to increase the interest of young Indians in Indian classical music.
• Sadolikar has regularly done playback singing for Indian films. She added Katkar to her name after marriage and is a student of Azizuddin Khan, son of Burji Khan.
• Sadolikar served as the Vice Chancellor of Bhatkhande Sangeet Sansthan University in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh from 2009 to 2020.
