First Paper

(1).Scientific and aesthetic study of Indian music.

(2). Dhwani origin, characteristics and development.

(3).Comparative study of northern and southern music styles with Odissi swar, taal, singing, and playing styles etc. and knowledge of similarities and differences with Utkal music paddhati.

(4) Recitation of Nom Tom and knowledge of its paddhati.

(5).Arvibhav, Tirobhav, Pracheen and Aadhunik Alap singing paddhati Shadaj-Pancham and Shadaj-Madhyam Bhav (5 and 4 order) Sahayak, Nand and origin of music Gram, Murchhana, Sarna Chatushthi, Shruti, Vibhajan.

(6).Advantages and disadvantages of raag classification.

(7).Shudha and Vikrit swar sthapana, its history and development.

(8). Detailed knowledge of the following-

(9). Detailed knowledge of all the terminologies of music studied so far.

(10). Knowledge of Pracheen and Aadhunik Odissi music compositions, principles and characteristics of compositions and types of compositions.

(11). Comparative study of Indian and Western music, impact of western music on Indian music with special reference to Odissi music.

(12).Origin, development and characteristics of different gharanas of Odissi music. Development of Ras – Sthai, Sanchari, Bhav, Anubhav and Tirobhav in the performance of various Odissi raags

Second Paper

(1). Development of Orissa music in Pracheen and Aadhunik times.

(2).History of Indian and Western music swarlipi paddhati, advantages and disadvantages of adopting western swarlipi paddhati in Indian music paddhati, suggestion to adopt a new swarlipi paddhati to maintain the swar of Indian music with special reference to Odissi music.

(3).Detailed and comparative study of prescribed raags, ability to use Aavirbhav tatha Tirobhav in Samaprakrtik raags.

(4). Detailed knowledge of Indian musical steps.

(5) Ability to create new restrictions in certain rules.

(6) Detailed knowledge of ragas prescribed in the syllabus.

(7). Detailed study of various singing styles of Indian music.

(8).Singing characteristics of Odissi music.

(9). Historical development of singing styles of Odissi music.

(10). Detailed study of scientific analysis of Indian music theory.

(11). Detailed knowledge of different Raags and Ragini of Orissa music.

(12).Classification of Pracheen, Madhyakalin and Aadhunik raags, their characteristics and comparison.

(13).Knowledge of writing the prescribed Taals in various Laykari from Prarambh to Bhaskar.

(14). Detailed knowledge of swars in Carnatik, Hindustani and Odissi music and practice of writing them in different laykari. Similarity and difference in the names of Saptak Shuddha, Komal and Tiwra swars. Interrelationship among these three styles.

Practical

(1).Detailed study of the detailed singing of the following Ragas- Sinhendra Madhyam, Hindol, Abhogi, Dhwani, Kedar Kamodi, Kirwani, Bhinna Shadaj, Bakulvaran, Anandi, Bhatiyar, Malav Kaushik, Chakravak, Sindura and Rageshree.

(2).Fantasy music in the above raags in different taals with beautiful singing.

(3).Ability to perform one Dhupad in different laykari in any four raags of the course.

(4).Any two of the following musical compositions in Orissa style (Utkal style).

(5).Knowing Odissi Ragini, Chaupaiyan, Bhajan, Chhand and Geet Govind.

(6).Comparative study of similar raags with detailed knowledge of earlier raags.

(7).Practice of writing swarlipi of all songs and other composition songs in Aakar.

(8).The following prescribed taal-

  • Mahesh Taal (9 Matras),
  • Ganesh Taal (18 Matras).

(9). Practical knowledge of various creative swars with classical introduction to Taan and Alap of the following raags – Bhavani, Paraj, Regputa, Deshkar, Shivranjani, Deepak, Rajkalyan, Desh and Narayani.

Stage performance

(1).The candidate will have to sing a piece of fantasy music in Vilambit, Madhya and Drut lay for 30 minutes in any one of the prescribed ragas with impressive singing.

(2).The student will have to sing Orissa Kalpana Sangeet for 15 minutes in Raag and Taal at the discretion of the examiner.

(3).The candidate will have to present one Orissa Ragni or Bhajan or Jann effectively for 10 minutes.

Note: Syllabus of previous years will be same.
