Important notes-

  • This is a new Raag which was composed a few days back by purifying Re Dha in Multani. At present, this Raag has become more popular than Multani.
  • Like Multani, in this too, while moving ahead from Mandra Ni, the Gandharas move up only after taking a particle of medium, as given in the above section.
  • There is Virodha in its wadi-conversational and singing time. From the point of view of the singer-conversation, it should be Uttaranga Pradhan Raag but from the point of view of singing time, it is Purvaang Pradhan Raag.
  • To increase the chromaticity of Raag sometimes komal Nishad is used in descending notes like – Ga(k) Ma(t)[Pa Ni(k)] Dha Pa Ma(t)  Pa Ma(t) Ga(k) SaRe – Sa
  • From the point of view of that, it does not come in any of the ten thats. Broke it forcefully and put it in the thaat. Out of the 72 thaats of Venkatamakhi, it sits appropriately in Dharmavati thatt.
  • Some virtuosos also call it Ambika Raag but the name Madhuvanti is more popular.
  • In the avaroh, special emphasis is given on Rishabh and Dhaivat. That’s why Dhaivat Par has been given part of Pancham and Rishabh Par has been given part of Shadaj.

Nyas swar– Ga(t) aad Pa ।

Similar raag- Multani and Patdipa.
