• He was born in Triplicane near Parthasarathy Temple in Chennai to Mandyam Dhati Raman and Vasundhara Devi in ​​a Tamil Iyengar Brahmin family.
• He was mainly brought up by his grandmother Yadugiri Devi. Her mother tongue is Tamil.
• His mother was a leading actress of Tamil cinema in the 1940s, where her Mangama Sabatham was the first Tamil film to be declared a “tremendous” hit at the box office.
• At the age of 7, Vyjayanthimala was selected to perform classical Indian dance for Pope Pius XII while her mother was an audience in Vatican City in 1940.
• Vyjayanthimala studied at Sacred Heart Higher Secondary School, Presentation Convent, Church Park, Chennai.

• In the early 1960s, actor Raj Kapoor began filming Sangam, starring Vyjayanthimala in the lead role, with Rajendra Kumar and Kapoor himself in the male leads. It took four years to complete filming. It is said that during this time, Vyjayanti was in a love affair with Mala Kapoor and almost married him. Initially, she was irritated by him and kept him away. However, Kapoor did not give up on his attitude.
• Vyjayanthimala married Chamanlal Bali, a Punjabi Hindu Arya Samaji from Delhi but living in Anna Salai, Chennai, in 1968.
• After marriage, she left her acting career and moved to Chennai. However, between 1968 and 1970, she shot for films she had signed before her marriage, such as Pyaar Hi Pyaar, Prince and Gaanwaar.

• When director M. V. Raman was looking for a new face for AVM Productions’ Vaazhakai (1949), he saw Vyjayanthimala performing Bharat Natyam at the Gokhale Hall in Chennai.
• She tried to convince her grandmother, who was apprehensive about Vyjayanthimala entering films as she felt that her granddaughter was too young to act in films and it would hinder her education and dance.
• At just 13, Vyjayanthimala played the role of a college girl named Mohana Sivasankaralingam and acted alongside senior actors S.V.Sahasranamam, M.S.Draupadi, T.R.Ramachandran and K.Shankarpani.
• The success of his Tamil film Vaazhakai in South India prompted AVM Productions to remake it in Hindi as Bahar in 1951.
• In 1965, Vyjayanthimala starred in two commercially disappointing films; New Law, with Ashok Kumar and Bharat Bhushan and named Iruvar T.R. Mahalingam, but both films are considered excellent by critics.
• After a few flops at the box office, Vyjayanthimala soon signed the swashbuckling Ruritanian romance Suraj opposite Rajendra Kumar.

• Vyjayanthimala’s political career began in 1984 when she contested the 1984 Tamil Nadu general election as an Indian National Congress candidate from the South Chennai constituency against Janata Party leader and veteran MP Era Sezhiyan.
• Subsequently, he made his debut in the Lok Sabha, the directly elected lower house of the Parliament of India, along with Amitabh Bachchan in late January 1985.
• In 1989, Vyjayanthimala again faced the 1989 Tamil Nadu general election, this time being opposed by Alladi Aruna of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
• In 1999, he resigned from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party.
