- Ustad Taufiq Qureshi is an Indian classical musician. He is a percussionist and composer.
- Ustad Taufiq Qureshi was born in Mumbai to tabla player Allah Rakha. His eldest brother Zakir Hussain is also a tabla player. He received guidance from the Ghatam scholar, Pandit Vikku Vinayakram.
- Qureshi is married to singer Geetika Varde of Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana. They have a son, Shikhar Nad Qureshi, who studied at St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
Career-
- Qureshi started his career when he was 20 years old. His stint with live performance began in 1986–87 with the formation of his own world music band, ‘Surya’.
- He has been featured as a performing artist on the 2009 GRAMMY Award winning albums Global Drum Project, Remember Shakti, Masters of Percussion and Summit. He collaborates with various classical artistes for fusion concerts.
- He is the first artist to develop a unique rhythmic language to adapt tabla syllables to the African drum called djembe.
- Qureshi’s trademark style incorporates the percussion of body and voice to create unique rhythmic motifs spanning different cultures.
- Recently Qureshi has been honored with Life Membership of the International Film and Television Club of the Asian Academy of Film and Television by Sandeep Marwah at Marwah Studios, Noida Film City. He has been teaching students for more than a decade.
