Early Life-

• Mushtaq Hussain was born in a family of traditional musicians in Sahaswan, a small town in Badaun district of Uttar Pradesh.
• It was here that he was brought up and spent his boyhood. Even before he learned to speak, he slowly whispered musical notes.
• Though music came into his life quite early, he was only 10 years old when his father, Ustad Kallan Khan, took him by the hand and started giving him regular lessons, or rather introduced him to the art.
• Mushtaq Hussain Khan was twelve when he became a disciple of Ustad Haider Khan and accompanied him to Kathmandu, Nepal.
• After this he started taking minimal musical training from Haider Khan. Finally, two years later, Mushtaq Hussain came under the tutelage of Ustad Inayat Hussain Khan, the founder of the Rampur-Sahaswan Gharana.
• Collectively, they spent eighteen years of their lives with their guru, and these years were not in vain.

Career –

• At the age of thirty-five, Mushtaq Hussain was enlisted as one of the court musicians of Rampur.
• Later, he became the chief court musician of Rampur. When music conferences started trending in the country in the twenties, Mushtaq Hussain was invited to participate in them. No music conference was considered complete without them.
