Early Life –

  • Suvir Mishra is an Indian player of Rudra Veena, Saraswati Veena and Surbahar. He is unique in being a left-handed artiste, having mastered all three veenas of Indian classical music – Rudra Veena, Saraswati Veena and Surbahar. He is the inventor of Mishra Veena.
  • Suvir Mishra was born in Harda, Madhya Pradesh and belongs to a family of musicians. He studied at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road. He started his journey in music at the age of 12.
  • Suveer likes to play Rudra Veena, Saraswati Veena and Surbahar in singing organ. This style integrates all the subtle characteristics of the human voice into performance.

Career –

  • He joined the Civil Service of India in 1993, and is currently serving as Commissioner of Customs, Customs and Central Excise, Mumbai.
  • Suveer was trained in Rudra Veena by Zia Fariduddin Dagar and also studied Dhrupad from Nirmalya Dey. He learned the singing style of Gwalior Gharana from K.N.Injar and learned sitar from N.R.Rama Rao. He learned tabla from Bandu Khan of Ajrara Gharana. Suvir got his inspiration for Veena from S Balachander of the Carnatic tradition.
  • He believes that the old themes in classical music do not have much importance in modern Indian life and contemporary themes should be used to popularize classical music.
  • To this end, he introduced modern Hindi free verse poetry within the Dhrupad composition structure, and also used new themes in Hindi literature instead of the traditional Awadhi language or Braj language.
  • Suveer Mishra plays and also makes Rudra Veena. Suveer has performed on various platforms within India.
