Early Life –

• Mallik was born in 1902 in Amta village, a small village in Darbhanga district in the northern part of the Indian state of Bihar.
• His family was a family of musicians in the Karta Rama dynasty, known as the Mallik family of Dhrupad musicians, who were court musicians in the Darbhanga court.
• His father, Rajit Ram, was a renowned singer and a great poet-writer based on ancient Vedic scripts, who composed thousands of hymns sung in the form of Dhrupad and is credited with the creation of Raga Vinod, Handwritten by Rajit Ram Vedic hymns were integrated into all.

Career-

• After becoming a court musician in the Darbhanga court of Maharaja Kameshwar Singh, he traveled around the world as a performer and companion to Raja Bahadur Bishweshwar Singh, the king’s younger brother.
• During his tours across the world and in old India before the partition of 1947, he was also highly appreciated by many princely states of India like Patiala, Jaipur, Kashmir etc… and many contemporary music practitioners of his time like Ustad Salamat also praised him. much appreciated.
• Ali Khan, Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan, Ustad Amir Khan etc… He served the court till India became independent in 1947.
• Mallik ji was also considered an expert in Khayal and Thumri along with his chosen Dhrupad style and was associated with leading singers of his time like Ustad Amir Khan and Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan.
• Mallik Ji was the only artiste who was gifted “The Top Grade” from All India Radio without any audition, All India Radio awards grades to artistes of different cadres based on multiple levels of auditions, but Mallik Ji was Received it as a gift from All India radio.
• He remained one of the chief selectors of the Top Grade Panel of All India Radio, Delhi till his death.
