History Of Natyashastra In English

Natyashastra

  • The classical information regarding plays is called Natyashastra. The oldest book of this information is also known as Natyashastra, whose author was Bharata Muni.
  • Bharat Muni’s lifetime is believed to be sometime between 400 BC to 100 AD. Bharat Muni’s Natya Shastra is still highly respected as a complete treatise on music, drama and acting.
  • He believes that in Natya Shastra, the rules of drama composition are not only assessed, but the means of fulfillment of these three elements, the actor, the stage and the observer, are discussed.

Introduction

  • Natya and Nritta are two types of visual poetry. Natyate abhinyatvena rupyate-iti natyam’ is the simulation of a particular state by nat-nati. Anukrit, which is bound by the association of rhythm and rhythm, is called nritta.
  • Both of these are subjects of acting and are considered under fine arts. There are four main parts of drama – Vachik, Satvik, Angik and Aharya.
  • Angic acting is imitation of various movements of the hands, legs, eyes, eyebrows, and waist, face, head etc. for expression.
  • The place corresponding to acting is called theatre, whose type, rendering of the rules of construction and decoration is also the subject of Natyashastra.
  • The name of the code of rules related to drama is ‘Natyasastra’. According to the Indian tradition, Prajapati himself has been considered the proto-creator of Natyashastra and special respect has been given to theatrical art by calling him ‘Natyaved’.
