- Mrs. Manjushree Chaki-Sarkar was an Indian Kathak dancer and a leading choreographer of contemporary dance. Manjushree received the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1993 for her contribution to creative dance.

Early life –
- Mrs. Manjushree Chaki-Sarkar was born in 1934 at Baharampur in West Bengal.
- A student of Prahlada Das in Calcutta, she trained under Oja Atomba Singh of Manipuri Jagoi, Maruthappa Pillai of Bharatanatyam and Smt.
- They married in 1958 and spent a few years in Africa where their daughter, Ranjabati, was born. He started a dance school there. She lived in New York for some time.
- After living in the United States for several years, she returned to India in 1981 and established her own company “Dancers Guild” in Calcutta, of which she is the artistic director and head.
- Over the course of a decade, he developed a distinctive stylistic framework and training method in the Dancers’ Guild. Her work has explored themes such as the environment, women in society, war and the seasons. Her major choreographic works include Tomari Matir Kanya, Chitrangada, Raag O Parva, Aranya Amrita, Tasher Desh and Charoveti.
