- Bhattacharya was born in 1926 in a Bengali family in Varanasi. He C.M. Received bachelor’s, master’s and MPhil degrees from Banaras Hindu University before beginning eight years of musical training at the Anglo-Bengali College and later Allauddin Khan.
- During his training under Alauddin Khan, Bhattacharya also served him as a secretary and handled all his correspondence.
- Bhattacharya performed at Baba Allauddin Khan Music Foundation at East Cultural Centre, Laxmi Nagar, Delhi.
