Early Life And Family

(1). Ustad Bahadur Khan, a Bengali, was born on 19 January 1931 in Shibpur, Brahmanbaria, Bangladesh.

(2). From a musical family, he was the son of Indian classical musician Ayat Ali Khan and related to sitar maestro Pandit Ravi Shankar.

(3). Before settling in Calcutta, Khan first learned to play the sarod from his father and uncle Allauddin Khan in Maihar.

(4). He also practiced vocal music and later collaborated with his cousin Ali Akbar Khan and Mrs. Annapurna Devi.

(5). Khan’s brothers Abed Hussain Khan and Mubarak Hussain Khan were also musicians and lived in Bangladesh, and were recipients from the Government of Bangladesh for their contributions to classical music.

(6). Bahadur Khan is the father of sitar maestro Kirit Khan, who passed away in 2006. One of his best students is sarod maestro Tejendra Narayan Majumdar.

Teaching

(1). Khan was a distinguished teacher, and was a faculty member for six months at the Ali Akbar College of Music in California, USA, where he taught Indian classical music. His students include-

(1). Khan was a regular performer on All India Radio, Radio Pakistan and Radio Bangladesh.

(2). He composed and directed music for several films by legendary Indian filmmaker Ritwik Ghatak and featured in the following –
