Important notes
It is a raag of the Carnatic system, which has now been propagated in North India.
Despite this being an uttarang pradhan raga of fickle nature, its singing time is in the first half of the day. Hence, there is a contradiction in its plaintive-conversational and singing time.
Its Rishabh is very important. Taking a particle of Gandhar, stops at Rishabh. Rishabh is short in Aaroh.
Raag Shankara is very close to it. The main difference is that Shankara Meend is a raag of predominantly serious nature and Hansadhwani is a raag of playful nature. Secondly, in Shankara raga Dhaivat is used and in Hansadhwani Dhaivat is forbidden.
