Early life –
- Brahmananda, sometimes referred to with the honorific “Maharaj”, was a disciple of Brahma Chaitanya, a spiritual teacher who promoted the importance of Rama during India’s Bhakti movement in the late 19th century.
- He was born in Jalihal village of Karnataka on the day of Magha Shuddha Dashami. He was a learned scholar in classical Indian philosophy.
Career-
- His studies and circumstances made him indifferent to worldly life and made him aware of the futility of bookish knowledge. So he left home and did penance at the Sri Lakshmi Venkatesh Temple in Venkatapura.
- He was instructed by the Lord to go to North India in search of a Guru. Later he found Brahmachaitanya Maharaj and did penance and attained bliss under the guidance of his guru in the Sarpesvara temple.
- He was responsible for the spread of the Bhakti movement in Karnataka by chanting the name and consecrating temples.
