Early Life –
- Vamanrao Hari Deshpande, also known as Vaman Hari Deshpande, was a famous musician, music critic and writer from Maharashtra.
- He was born on July 27, 1907 in Bhor, Pune to Hari Sakharam Deshpande.
- There was a house. He spent his childhood in Shirwal in Satara district of Maharashtra and later attended New English School, Pune and passed GDA and FCA exams.
- He was the first Indian to complete both sections of the FCA exam simultaneously in one year.
- Deshpande was fond of music since childhood. After receiving training from Shankarrao Kulkarni and Yadavrao Joshi, he started teaching music in Mumbai after matriculation.
- In 1928, he returned to Pune in search of a job and coincidentally met Sureshbabu Mane, son of musician and Kirana Gharana maestro Abdul Karim Khan, in a grocery shop.
- Only five years younger than Sureshbabu, he began to view the composer as a mentor and brother, receiving extensive training from him.
Career–
- Deshpande continued her training under the famous classical singer Mogubai Kurdikar of the Jaipur-Atrauli Gharana.
- In 1936, along with his friends Professor Deodhar and Motiram Pai, he organized a musical performance at Jinnah Hall, Mumbai, in which 11-year-old Kumar Gandharva, who became a renowned musician, made his debut.
- Harandaj Gayaki won the Maharashtra State Award for Best Work in Music in 1962 for its aesthetic criticism of musical aspects.
- Deshpande was associated with several music institutions in various capacities. He was a member of the Arts Branch of the Maharashtra State Literary and Cultural Board and the Central Audition Board of All India Radio.
- He was an office-bearer of Arya Sangeet Mandal, a music school started by his friend Professor Deodhar. Also Marathi writer and musician P.L. Deshpande and Professor Dhekne, he was instrumental in starting the music department at the University of Mumbai.
