Early Life and Education –

• Narayan was initiated into Kathak at the age of four by Sadhna Bose in Kolkata and Guru Kundal Lal in Mumbai.
• He studied at Miranda House in Delhi, India, graduating in 1972 with a master’s degree in physics. He completed M.Phil.
• in Defense and Strategic Studies from Madras University in 2008 and MPhil in Social Sciences from Panjab University in 2001.
• She also served as a career officer for the Indian Audit and Accounts Service and retired in 2010. She married Dr. Herbert Traxel, Austrian Ambassador to India (Retd.)

Career

• As an “artist and guru”, Shovana Narayan has performed widely in many prestigious national and international festivals and before many heads of state and governments and has trained many Kathak artists of the younger generation.
• As a “choreographer-performer”, Shovana Narayan has led and produced international collaborative works with leading dancers of Western classical ballet, flamenco, tap dance, Buddhist chants with Buddhist monks, as well as dances to compositions by Western classical composers. is constructed.
• She was the creative director-producer-dancer of the first trilogy to incorporate western classical dance-Kathak-Flamenco in “The Dawn After” in 1994.
• He gave the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi.

Some of his choreography are:-

• Dance ballet “Kadambari: The Poet’s Muse” (2012), a theme never attempted before, on the influence of Kadambari, sister-in-law on Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore
• An ode to “Shakuntala” (by Maithili Sharan Gupta), who revived the narrative tradition of the north-Indian dance form.

Research and films

• Shovana has researched and discovered 8 Kathak villages near Gaya with documentary and official records.
• He collaborated with Sanskrit and epigraphic scholar KK Mishra, who discovered a Prakrit inscription in the Ashokan-Brahmi script belonging to the Kathaks of the 4th century BCE.
