Introduction
- The Pambai are a small community in southern Andhra who play this instrument. This unit of two drums is held near the player’s waist or placed on the floor, and is beaten with sticks or hands and sticks.
- In simpler varieties, both drums are made of wood, but there is a pambai in which one drum is made of wood and the other of brass: the wooden drum is known as Veeru Vanam and the metal drum as Vengala pambai. Pambai is played in the traditional outfit of Naiyandi Melam.
