Mohankauns Raag is believed to have originated from Bhairavi thaat. Dhaivat & Nishad are used as komal swar and both Nishad are used in this raag. Re & Pa are not used in this raag and all remaining swars are used as shudha . Its jati is Audav- Audav(5,5).   • In Raag Malkauns, if pure Gandhar is used in the ascension and Gandhar Komal is used in the descent, then it will become Raag Mohankauns.
  • It is a mixture of Raag JoGa in PurvanGa and Raag Malakouns in UttaranGa. It is a straight Raag and can be sung freely in all the three octaves.
  • This Raag creates a calm and solemn atmosphere.
  • This Raag is very melodious but not very popular because it is relatively new. But this Raag is sung by Ustad Salamat Ali and Nazakat Ali Khan.
  • Impressed by this, Acharya Tanranga ji has composed restrictions in Mohankaus.
