Introduction and use of Ksing Shinrang Musical Instrument

Introduction –

  • The Ksing Shinrang is a percussion instrument made of wood, leather and parchment. This religious instrument is found in Meghalaya. A wooden two-faced cylindrical body covered with parchment and attached to the body with leather straps.
  • Iron rings are inserted in the straps to tune the drum. The right face is shorter than the left face. The smaller face is played with a stick and the left face, the larger one, is played with the hand.

  • Kesing Shinrang is used in religious dance festivals called “Ka Shad Nongkrem” of the Khasi community of Jaintia Hills.
