Jogkauns raag is believed to have originated from Bhairavi thaat. Both Nishad ,both Ghandhar and Dhaivat are used as komal in this raag  . Re is not used in this raag and all remaining swars are used as shudha.Its jati is Shadav- Shadav (6,6). In this raag Ma & Sa are Vadi & Samvadi swar .The singing time of this raag is 12 am to 3 am(the third part of the night).

Important Notes-

  • This is a relatively new Raag composed by Pandit Jagannath Bua Purohit ‘Gunidas’. It is made from a mixture of Raag Jog and Raag Chandrakaus.
  • Raag which appears in Purvanga of this Raag like – Sa Ga Ma Pa Ma – Ga Ma Ga Ga(k) Sa- or Ga Ma Ga(k) Sa, in Uttaraag Raag Chandrakouns appears like – Ma Dha(k)Ni Sa * – Sa* Ga(k)’ Sa* – Ni Dh(k), followed by a special swar group Pa Dha(k)Ni(k) Dha(k)Pa Ma.
  • Shuddha Nishad is used in both aaroh and avaroh but Komal Nishad is used only in avaroh special sawr group (Pa Dha(k)Ni(k) Dha(k)Pa Ma- or Dha(k)Ni(k) Dha (k)Pa Ma- or Ni(k) Dha(k)Pa Ma-). This swar group enhances the identity of this Raag and gives beauty. In this way, Pancham swar is used only in this swar community in Aaroha.
  • The Madhya Ma note is very dominant in this Raag. This Raag can be sung freely in all the three octaves. These swar consonances represent the form of raag.
