History of Ghoomar Dance and Ghoomar Songs
History –
- Ghoomar is a traditional folk dance of Rajasthan. It was developed by the Bhil tribe to worship Goddess Saraswati and was later adopted by other Rajasthani communities.
- This dance is mainly performed by women wearing a ghunghat and a whirling dress called “Ghagra”.
- In this dance women dance in and out of a big circle. The name Ghoomar is derived from the Hindi word Ghoomna which refers to moving around during the dance.
- Ghoomar is often performed on special occasions such as wedding ceremonies, festivals and religious events, and often lasts for a few hours.

- This dance is organized on the occasion of Gangaur. The costume of this dance is lehenga of 80/120 bud.
- Ghoomar dance is also known as Rajwadi dance of Rajasthan.
