Introduction and use of Dhak Musical Instrument

Introduction –

  • Dhak is a giant membranophone instrument from India. Shapes vary from nearly cylindrical to barrel. The method of stretching the skin on the mouth and laces also varies. It is hung from the neck, tied around the waist and placed on the lap or on the ground, and is usually played with wooden sticks. It is coated on the left side to give it a heavier sound.

Use –

  • Dhak ki Thap is an integral part of Durga Puja. It is mostly played by the Bengali Hindu community. Also used in religious, auspicious occasions in temples.
