- This folk art is slightly different from other arts here. The word ‘tamasha’ means “entertainment”. Some researchers believe that it originated from Sanskrit drama forms – Prahasana and Bhan.
Description
- Beginning Tamasha is a form of drama. It originated in Maharashtra in the 16th century.
- Mythological stories like Mahabharata and Ramayana are narrated through this folk art.
- Dholki, drum, tuntuni, manjira, tambourine, halgi, string, harmonium and ghungroos are used in this.
- Location Mainly the tamasha is performed by the ‘Kolhati’ community of Maharashtra. No stage etc. is required to present this art. This can be done in any open space.
- In Marathi literature, these are forms of Krishnalila, depicting the various events of the birth of Lord Krishna.
- Stories related to Krishna Lord Ganesha is worshiped first as soon as the Tamasha begins. This is followed by the singing of Galvana or Gaulnier.
- Parts of Tamasha Natya Tamasha is displayed in four parts or in four numbers, these are Gana, Gavlan, Batauni and finally the main dance Vagh respectively.
