Definition –

  • Musical notes are named Sargam. The word Sargam has been created by combining the first letters of the names of the first four notes and in a way it can also be called an abbreviation.
  • There are seven main notes of music whose names are Shadaj, Rishabh, Gandhar, Madhyam, Pancham, Dhaivat and Nishad. In common parlance, these are called Sa, Re, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha and Ni. It is clear that the name Sargam has been created using the letters without quantity in the first four notes.
  • Apart from the above seven main notes, there are also five auxiliary notes which are called Komal Re, Komal Ga, Sharp Ma, Komal Dha and Komal Ni. Music is composed with the help of these notes.
