Teentaal spelled commonly as tintal, teental, or tintaal, and also called trital . It is the most common taal of Indian classical music or Hindustani Classical Music, and is used for Madhya Laya or Drut  Lay (Tempo) . It is played on the Tabla as well as on other percussion instruments.

Teen taal has 16 Beats (matras)  in four equal partitions (Vibhag). There are 4-4 matras in all four partitions called as Vibhag also. There is clapping on 1st, 5th and 13th matra and khali on 9th matra or beat .Teentaal played on the table in Ekgun , Dugun , Tigun and Chaugun. It is used in Khayal Gayan  and  Thumri also .

  • “*” is user for Taar Saptak (Higher Octave notes) Swars eg – Pa*
  • “(k)” small character is used for komal swars.eg – ( Re(k) , Ga(k) , Dha(k) , Ni(k) )
  • Ma(t) here “(t)” is used for showing teevra swar Ma(t) .
  • “-” is used for Holdong the notes according to the Song.
  • Swars written “ReGa” in this manner means they are playing fast or two swars on one beat.
  • Ma(Ga) or (Ga)Ma Here Ga is Kan Swar or Sparsh Swar and Ma is Mool Swar. (You Can skip the kan swar if not understand how to play)
  • Swars written [ Ni(k)  Pa ] in this manner they are playing or singing in sliding mode means Meend acc to Indian music .
  • { NiSa*Re*Sa* Ni } here this braket {} is used for showing Khatka in which swars are playing fast .

Third Partition  – Keep the 9th Matra empty with the right hand, count 4 times with the right hand and speak the words(Bols).
