Swar Gyan-

(1).Ability to distinguish komal and tiwra swar sung/played with shudha swar.

(2).First of all, practice all the Alankar in visual raag.

(3).Practice of using the following 6 new Alankar and in different lay (one / two / three / four / notes in one matra) by giving lay by hand.

Raag gyan

(1.)This year Yaman (or Kalyan) and Bhupali are required to sing/play Bade Khayal/Masitkhani Gat (only Bandish/Gat) of these raags along with repetition of all the raags of the previous year. Swar vistar is not expected.

(2).Raag for study –

  • Bhairav
  • Alhiya Bilawal
  • Kedar
  • Bageshree
  • Bihag
  • Malkauns
  • Khamaj.

(3).Practice of preparing to sing / play (up to 7 minutes) with five Alaps and five taan (up to 7 minutes) in these raags including Aaroh-Avaroh, Prarambhik Alap and One Madhyalay Khayal / Rajlahani.

(4).Mandal’s prayer “Jai Jagdish Hare” and a bhajan or lok song should be taught for singing. Practice of preparation of lok dhun and specific playing steps for playing.

(6) Ability to identify raags from the sung/played Alaps is expected.

Taal Gyan

(1).Information about JhaptaAl, Rupaktaal, Dhamar and taal.

(2).Practice of recognizing the taals (from the bol) played on the tabla – Keharwa, Dadra, Teen Taal, Ektaal, Jhaptaal, Rupak, Chautaal, Dhamar.

(3). Teentaal, Ektaal, Chautaal, Dhamar, Rupak and Jhapataal by clapping with hand (showing Tali -Khali) bol in Dugun.

Theory

(1).Compulsory revision of all the terminologies of the previous year.

(2).Descriptive general knowledge of the following subjects. Name of two main paddhati  of Indian music – 1) Uttar Sangeet 2) South Indian (Carnatak). Explanation of Naad and three names of its specialty – 1) smallness and greatness, 2) highness and lowness, 3) unique qualities of Jati. Names of Gankriya/Varn – 1)Sthai, Aarohi – Avarohi, 3) Sanchari, 4) Abhog. Types of songs – Drupad, Dhamar, Khayal, Bhajan, Lakshan Geet, Sargam Geet. For Vadhy – Mashitkhani and Rajkhani Gat and Sargamgeet. Dhwani- Naad- Shruti, knowledge of swar.

(2). Brief description of Chhinnoh of Pt. Vishnu Digambara Puluskar and Pt. Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande Swarlipi – Mandara / Madhya / Tar Swar. Sam / Khali / Tali / Vibhag, Half Matra (1/2) / Paav (1/4) Matra.

(3). Complete description of raags of first and second year – Shudha / Komal / Tiwra swars used in raag, Aaroh,Avaroh,Vadi-Samvadi, Pakad, Samay).

(4).Knowledge of all the Taals learned so far, Matra, Theka, Sam, Vibhag, Tali, Khali and practice of recitation Taals in Thah (equal) and Dugun lay.

(5).Biography of Pt Vishnu Digambar Pluskar (in 10 sentences) ….

(6).Information about the parts of vadhya – The students of singing will give information about Tanpura and the students of music will give information about vadhya.
