Layakari and its varities –
The musician first sets a rhythm while singing. And then introduces his artistic practice. Sometimes artist work on the musical notes or some times in rhythm . In the second action, sometimes he tries to sing one, two or three swars in one matra of rhythm, sometimes he speaks four or five swars in two or three matras of rhythm.
In music, a working action is called Layakari . Naming of a layakari is based on the number of swars or lyrics played in matra of rhythm . As many quantities, words or swars are spoken on a matra , the same number or partition number name , the name of layakari is decided .
For example, 3 swars or lyrics spoken in one matra will be called tigun and 3 quantities in 2 quantities spoken layakari will be called 3/2 gun. Thus many types of layakari are possible.
In other words, After playing or singing song , swars , bol in a set rhythm , changing to dugun , tigun , chaugun then it is called layakari .
Here only the main layakari are explained below.
- Ekgun – Singing or playing one swar or bol in one matra .
- Dugun – Singing or playing two swars or bol in one matra .
- Adhigun – Singing or playing one swars or bol in two matras.
- Tigun – Singing or playing three swars or bol in one matra.
- Aad – Singing or playing three swars or bol in two matras.
- Kuaad – Singing or playing six swars or bol in four matras.
- Biaad – Singing or playing seven swars or bol in four matras.
Method of writing layakari of different rhythms –
To write a layakari of any rhythm, first of all, write all matras a little bit apart at a distance. After that, if you have to write a simple layakari , like dugun, tigun, chaugun etc. then write 2, 3 or 4 swars or bol in 1-1 matra respectively .

Matras – This taal have 10 matras .
Vibhag – This taal have 4 partition . First and third partition have 2-2 matras & second and fourth partition have 3 -3 matras .
Taali – In this taal , the 1st, 3rd and 8th matra have clap.
Khali – In this taal 6th matra play as blank .
