Kathak Senior Diploma 6th Year Syllabus In English

Kathak

(Practice exam of 200 marks and two question papers of scriptures of 50-50 marks. All previous year’s syllabus is also included.)

Practice

(1).Special ability to perform dance in all taals till date. Special fitness in Angchari Mandal and Hast Mudra.

(2).Ability to dance in any of the three taals Arjuntaal, Ganeshtaal, Saraswatitaal, Rudrataal and Swari taal (both types of 15 and 16 matras).

(3).Ability to properly operate the organs like eyes, earth, throat, waist, feet and hands.

(4).Ability to dance in Kathak style in the given script. Explain the difference between the dances of Jaipur and Lucknow gharanas by demonstrating them.

(5).Practice of playing some tabla and pakhawaj’s bol, Toda, Tukda, Paran etc.

(6).Practice of singing one Swaramalika or Chota Khayal in PIlu, Jhinjhoti, Gara, Basant and Bahar raags. Practice of showing Bhav by singing in any two of these singing styles of Hori, Chaiti, Kajri, Ghazal, Tarana, Bhajan.

(7).Marich-Vadh, Madan-Rahan, Draupadi Chirharan, Bhilni-Bhakti, Panghat ki Chhedachhad, Laxman Shakti, Tripurasur Vadh, Vaman-Avatar, Ahilya Uddhar, Sati Anusuiya, Kaliya-Daman, in any 5 of these stories, it is practice to show Gat Bhav.

Theory

First Paper

(1).Detailed history of Kathak dance, its outline and its adoption in different times, full introduction of dance teachers of each period and their dance art.

(2).Purpose and history of theater design, lighting system on the theater and its need.

(3).Necessity of costumes in dance, inter-relationship between costumes and make-up and critical views in this regard.

(4).Characteristics of lok dance and its different forms, similarities and differences between Kathak and lok dance, need of lok dance and its essential components.

(5).Introduction to Bharatanatyam, Manipuri, Odissi, Kuchipudi and Kathakali dance and Kathak dance and mutual similarities and differences in all these dances.

(6).Explanation of Kutap or Vrindavan and principles of its creation, need and importance of Kutap in Kathak dance.

(7).Mutual similarity and difference between dance and acting and the different characteristics and importance of both of them.

(8).Complete introduction to western dance, observation of various Karan and Rancho used in it, mutual similarities and differences between western dance and Kathak dance, rules of composition of Baile dance, views on superiority of Kathak style of Baile.

(9).Complete introduction to aadhunik dance, its costumes and costumes, place of aadhunik dance in the society, characteristics of aadhunik dance and their requirements in present times.

(10)Essays on dance related topics like –

  • Nirtya aur Jeevan
  • Nirtya aur Shahitya
  • Nirtya aur Rashtar
  • Place of dance in education,
  • Dance and exercise and future of Kathak dance.
Second Paper

(1).Detailed study of Kathak dance gharanas, introduction of past and present dance masters of each gharanas, their styles and their specialties.

(2).Example explanation of the following words – Agartaal, Aalidh, Uthan, Aanchit, Kunchit, Kunchit-Bhramari, Paad-Vinyasa, Samput, Meelit, Drishti, Prakampit Griva, Parvahit Shir, Ekapad, Bhramari Seven dance items, Vyuh Kriya, Ashtagati, Vilom , Anulom, Kriya and Hela.

(3).A detailed study of the differences between the Nayak and the Nayika.

(4).Principles of operation of body parts like head, eyes, eyebrows, lips etc., feelings arising out of these operations, their usefulness in Kathak dance.

(5).Definition of lipi- From the first year to the sixth year, writing the theka and bol of all the taals prescribed in the curriculum in different laykari, thoughts and suggestions on the creation of an independent and suitable lipi for dance.

(6).Detailed knowledge of the bol of each gharanas of Kathak dance, mutual similarities and differences, writing the bol of each gharanas separately, different characteristics of the bol of each gharanas. Knowledge of different types of laykari.

(7).Writing lehra in all the taals prescribed in the syllabus from first year to sixth year.

(8).Complete introduction to Carnatak taal paddhati, mutual comparison of Hindustani taal paddhati and Karnatak taal paddhati, writing northern taals in Carnatak taal lipi.

(9).Essays related to dance like

  • Lok dance
  • Relation of dance with taal and lay,
  • Spiritual importance of dance,
  • Upliftment of character through dance
  • Place of mathematics in dance.

(10). Different and knowledge of Tabla, Pakhawaj and dance  bol, Paran, Toda etc. Ordinary Chakkardar, Kamali Chakkardar, Farmaishi Chakkardar, Nrityangi, Talangi, Kavitangi, Sangeetani, and Mishrangi Todo knowledge and Bhend.


(11).Complete introduction to Pilu, Jhinjhoti, Gara, Basant, Bahar raags.

(12).Complete introduction and comparative study of singing styles like Hori, Chaiti, Kajri, Ghazal, Tarana, Thumri, Bhajan etc.
