Kathak Senior Diploma 5th Year Syllabus In English

Kathak

(Practical test of 100 marks and one question paper of scriptures of 50 marks. Syllabus of all previous years is also included.)

Practical

(1).Ability to present 10 Karan Practically.

(2).Ability to dance for 25 minutes in Teentaal and 15 minutes in Dhamar without repeating the bol. Practice of dancing while showing Bhav on singing Bhajan and Thumri.

(3).New stories – such as Makhan-Chauri, Kalia-Daman, Chir-Haran, Gauvardhan-Dharan, and practice of Tandav and Lasya Ang dance in Kathak style.

(4).Ability to dance any two regional lok dances like Garba, Ras Koli, Chapela, Bhangra, etc.

(10).Practice of playing Lehra (Nagma) in the taals prescribed in the syllabus so far.

(11).Rupak, Dhumali, Chartaal, Deepchandi and Pancham Sawari have two thaats each, one Aamad, four Toda, one Chakkaradar Toda and Chakkaradar Paran, two simple Paran, three Tihai and Tatkars and their Palta.

(12).Clapping the Lakshmitaal, Brahmataal, Jataddha and Jhumra taals with the hands and recitation in Thah, Dugun, Tigun, Chaugun and Aadlyas and removing them with the feet.

(13).Practice of playing all the taal contracts prescribed so far on the tabla.

(14).Ability to sing swaramalika in Khamaj, Kafi, Tilang and Bihag raags.

Theory-

(1).Definition and explanation of the following terms. Urap, Purap, Tirap, Kasak, Masak, Kataaksh, Ghughant, Urmai, Surmai, Laag-daunt, Jati-Paran, Pakshi-Paran, Bol-Paran, Gat-Nikas, Gat-Toda, Gat-Bhav, Grima-Bhend, Dam – Bedam and Gati – Bhend .

(2).Study of the following subjects- Traditional costumes, requirements of successful dance performance, selection of Ghungroos, merits and demerits of the dancer, complete explanation of Naurso and their use in dance; Make up, vision, knowledge of directions in dance.

(3).Comparative and detailed study of Lucknow, Jaipur, and Banaras gharana of dance.

(4).Knowledge of the difference between Nayak and Nayika.

(5).Study of biographies of –

  • Maharaj Thakur Prasad
  • Maharaj Ishwari Prasad
  • Shankar Namboodiripad
  • Rukmani Arundale.

(6). Complete introduction to Laxmitaal, Brahmataal, Jat, Aadha and Jhumra taals and ability to write taallipi in different laykari.

(7).Complete introduction to Kaphi, Khamaj, Tilang and Bihag raags.

(8).Complete introduction to Dhrupad, Dhamar, Khayal, Tappa, Thumri and Bhajan singing styles.

(9).Introductory knowledge of lesser known classical dance forms of India like- Odissi, Kuchipudi.
