The contribution of Gharanas in North Indian music has been commendable. Whenever the discussion of Agra Gharana arises, then the name of Late Faiyaz Khan is remembered.

In the first half of the 20th century, no Muslim singer got as much respect as Fayaz Khan got.

Wearing black sherwani and white turban, when he used to come with Rangambadi Aada along with his disciples, it seemed as if he was a wrestler-singer. He could be recognized from a distance by his athletic body, big moustache, double body and height of about 6 feet.

Career –

• The record of his Thumri sung by Bajuband Khul Khul Jaye is very famous. Dhrupad used to recite nom tom like dhamar even in his thoughts. In between you only Anant Hari used to speak sometimes. After making elaborate alap, he used to start the bandish of the song. His style of vocalization represents the Agra Gharana and on listening to it one remembers that Gharana. This part of him is found a little in his disciples.

• Fayaz Khan was also a good writer. She named herself Prempriya in her writings. He also composed many bandhis.
• Jaijaivanti – “More temples have no flame now”
• Raag Jog – “Aaj Morai Ghar Aaye”
• Lalit Raga  – “Tadpat Hu Jaise Jal Bin Meen”
• Nat Bihag – “Jhan Jhan Payal Baje Records”

Bandish recording of other songs has also been done, and these songs are very popular and of high quality.

• Even while living in the Baroda court, he went to participate in music conferences and Akashvani programs with the permission of Maharaj.

• Jaijawanti, Lalit, Darbari, Sughrai, Todi, Ramkali, Puriya, Purvi etc. were his favorite ragas.
