Dhamar Taal  is the most common taal of Indian classical music or Hindustani Classical Music. It is played on the Tabla as well as on other percussion instruments. It is used in Dhrupad style singing.

Dhamar Taal has 14 Beats (matras)  in four equal partitions (Vibhag). There are 4-4 matras in all four partitions called as Vibhag also. There is clapping on 1st, 6th and 11th matra and khali on 8th matra or beat.

1st Partition  – Clap on first matra from right hand to left hand and counting 5 times and speaking the words (Bols)

2nd Partition  – Clap on 6th Matra from right hand to left hand and counting 2 times and speaking the words(Bols).

Third Partition  – Keep the 8th Matra empty with the right hand, count 3 times with the right hand and speak the words(Bols).

4th Partition – Clap on 11th Matra from right hand to left hand and count 4 times and speaking words(bols).
