Tilang raag is believed to have originated from Khamaj thaat.Dha & Re are not used in this raag. Its jati is Audav – Audav. Ga & Ni are Vadi & Samvadi swar . Both the Nishads are used in this raag . The singing time of this raag is 9 pm to 12 am(the second part of the night).

  • Ma(Ga) or (Ga)Ma Here Ga is Kan Swar or Sparsh Swar and Ma is Mool Swar. (You Can skip the kan swar if not understand how to play)
  • Swars written [ Ni(k)  Pa ] in this manner they are playing or singing in sliding mode means Meend acc to Indian music .
  • { NiSa*Re*Sa* Ni } here this braket {} is used for showing Khatka in which swars are playing fast .

Aaroh – Sa Ga Ma Pa Ni Sa*.

Avaroh – Sa* Ni(k) Pa Ma Ga Sa.

Pakad – Ni(k) Pa Ga Ma Ga.

Thaat – Khamaj thaat

Varjit swar – Re and Dha.

Vadi – Samvadi swar – Ga and Ni.

Jati – Audav – Aaudav

Singing – 9 pm to 12 am(the second part of the night).

Important Notes:-

1.Shudh nishad is used in aaroh and soft in avaroh in this raag. Sometimes both nishad is used together.

2.Sometimes rishabh is used in avaroh oh higher octave to increase fairness of raag.

3.Mostly chhota khyal and thumri sang in this.
