Sur Malhar raag is believed to have originated from Kaphi thaat. Ni is used as shudha swar in aaroh and Ni(k) is used as komal swar in avaroh .Ga & Dha are not used in aaroh and  Ga is not used in avaroh. Its jati is Audav –Shadav. In this raag Ma & Sa are Vadi & Samvadi swar .The singing time of this raag is noon time 12 pm to 3 pm.

3.It’s clear from the name this is type of malhar. Very less people believe this is type of kanhda and used soft gandhar.

4.The association of Re Pa, Re Ma, ni Pa and Ma Re is used again and again in this raag which is very ear loving. Ma Re and Re Pa is indicative of malhar.
