Ramkali Raag is believed to have originated from bhairav thaat. Rishabh, Dhaivat komal both Nishad and both Madhyam are used in Ramkali raag. Its jati is Shadav-Sampurn. In this raag Pa & Sa are Vadi & Samvadi swar .The singing time of this raag is 6 Am to 9 Am.

Important Notes:-

1.Both Madhyam and both Nishad are used in this. Tivra Madhyam is used with Pancham in Aaroh as – Sa Ga Ma Pa, Dha(k) Dha(k) Pa, Ma(t) Pa Dha(k) Ni(k) Dha(k) Pa, but sometimes Ga Ma(t) Pa is not used. Komal Ni(k) is used as Vakra with dhaivat in avaroh as – Pa Ma(t) Pa, Dha(k) Ni(k)Dha(k) Pa, Ga Ma Ni(k) Dha Pa or Sa*Ni Dha(k)Ni(k) Dha(k)Pa. In Raag Ramkali Tvira Ma(t) and komal Ni(k) different from Raag Bhairav.

2.Two times agitation on Re(k) and Dha(k) is occur in this raag similar in bhairav. The difference between the two is that bhairav’s movement is serious and frequent, but ramkali’s movement is relatively less.

3. This is Morning Sandhiprakash raag. The rule is that in the early morning sandhiprakash raag, Re(k) should be komal and Ga & Ma should be shudha .In this, both Madhyam appear , but tivra Ma is pradhan in comparison to shudh Ma.

4.Some Musicians believe this is raag of Sampurn jati. But Rishabh is very less used in aaroh, often leaves that too and used .Ni Sa Ga Ma Pa – Ma(t) Pa. Sometimes used Sa Ga Re(k),Re(k) Ga Ma Pa Ga Ma Re(k) Re(k) Sa.
