Maru Bihag Raagis believed to have originated from Kalyan thaat. Madhyam and all remaining swars are used as shudha.Re & Dha are not used in aaroh so,its jati is Audav-Sampurn(5,6). In this raag Ga & Ni are Vadi & Samvadi swar and all seven swars are used in avaroh.The singing time of this raag is 6 pm to 9 pm(the first part of the night).

  • Swars written [ Ni(k)  Pa ] in this manner they are playing or singing in sliding mode means Meend acc to Indian music .

Thaat – Kalyan thaat

Varjit swar- Rishabh and Dhevat.

Vadi- Samvadi swar- Ga and Ni.

Jati-  Audav- Sampoorn

Gayan Samay-  ratri ka pratham prahar.

Aaroh- Ni Sa Ga Ma(t)Pa, Ni Sa*.

Avaroh-  Sa* Ni Dha Pa Dha – Pa Ma(t) Ga, Ma(t)Ga Sa Re Sa.

Pakad- Ni Dha Pa – Dha – Pa Ma(t) Pa, Ma(t)Ga, Ma(t)Ga, Sa Re Sa.

Important Notes:-

  1. From the name it seems that it is combination of Maru and bihag Raag, but it is not. It is combination of kalyan and bihag raag. Small piece of these come after each other. Ni Sa Ga and Pa Ni Sa is swar of bihag raag and Ma(t)Pa Dha Pa, Sa* Ni Dha Pa, Pa Dha, Ma(t)Ga – Ma(t)Ga Re Sa is swar of kalyan raag.
  2. Both madhyam are used in this. Twira Ma are used in both Aaroh and avaroh and shudh Ma is used with Shadaj in only aaroh, As- Sa Ma, Ma Ga, Ma(t) Ga Re sa.
  3. This raag is play similar in all three octaves.
  4. Firstly dhevat take fast in avroh like bihag after that stop on dhevat like kalyan, Sa* Ni Dha Pa Dha – Pa. Rishabh also used like this, As- Ma(t)Ga, Ma(t)Ga Re Sa Re – Sa.
  5. It’s not too old. Therefore old bandishe found very less in this. Now it is slowly becoming very popular.
