Kedar raag is believed to have originated from Kalyan thaat. In this raag both the Madhayam are used and all the swars are used as shudha. Re is not used in aaroh and  Ga is not used in this raag ,so its jati is Audav -Shadav. In this raag Ma & Sa are Vadi & Samvadi swar .The singing time of this raag is 6 pm to 9 pm (the first part of the night).

Thaat- Kalyan thaat

Varjit swar-Ga is not used in this raag and Re is not used in aaroh.

Vadi – Samvadi swar- Ma and Sa

Jati- Audav- Shadav (5,6)

Singing time -6 pm to 9 pm (the first part of the night).

Important notes:-

1.Tiwra Ma is used with Pancham in aaroh and shudha Ma is used in both aaroh and avaroh. Sometimes both Ma are used with meend in avaroh.

2.Gandhar are not used in this raag it is stated in description of raag, But sometimes the particle of Gandhar are used on Madhyam. As  Sa Ma — Ga Pa. Fairness of raag increased to used this particle and none use doesn’t harm raag, therefore this particle is necessary.

3.Sometimes komal Ni are used as vivadi swar to increase fairness of aaroh in this raag as similar to hamir.

4.It has trend curve but use of curvature is relaxed in Tons.
