In this raag Ma & Sa are Vadi & Samvadi swar .The singing time of this raag is 9 Am to 12 Pm (the second part of the day).

Important Notes:-

  • This is raag of Karnatak padhiti now it’s famous in Uttari sangeet padhiti. It’s kept in Asavari thaat due to komal Ga(k)Dha(k)Ni(k). From the point of view of swar, it can also be kept in Bhairavi thaat, but due to chalan of this raag , it has been kept in Asavari thaat.
  • This is beautiful combination of Malkauns and Jaunpuri raag. Malkauns is in purvang and Jaunpuri is in utrang. Some singers say that it is combination of Malkauns and Bharavi raag.
  • Due to chalan like Asavari raag , Dha(k) Ma swars used again and again . And . There is abundance use of association of Dha(k) Ma and Sa* Ma swars .
  • By removing Rishabh swar from Bhairavi raag, Asavari raag is originated.
  • This is playing in all three octaves despite utrang pradhan raag .
  • This Raag is of khayal Gayaki and Thumri is not sang in this raag .
  • Some Musicians considerd Pa as vadi and Sa as samvadi.
  • Swar of nyas – Ending with Ma and Pa in singing or playing.
  • Similar Culture Raag- Malkauns in purvang and Jaunpuri & Bharavi in utrang.
  • When Malkauns increased in purvang then end on pancham swar and when chaya of Jaunpuri increase then used Ga(k) Ma Dha(K) Ni(K) swar group are used . And while using the pancham in the Aaroh , end with madhyam swar .
  • The chaya of Bhairavi raag does not come due to the Chalan of Asavari raag and Rishabh not used . The Chaya of Bhairavi comes from the swar in Sa Ga(k) Ma Pa Ga(k) Ma, but after that the use Ga(k) Sa feeling of Bhairavi raag ends . By taking Dha(k) Dha(k) Sa after Ga(k) Sa, the illusion of Malkauns raag goes away.

• In Utarang, we use Ga(k) Ma Pa Dha(k) Dha(k) Ni Sa* or Ga(k) Ma Dha(k) Ni(k) Sa*. Bhairavi’s Chaya comes from using Ga(k) Ma Pa Dha(k) Dha(k) Ni Sa* . If we used Sa*Dha(k) Ni(k) Dha(k)Ma , then Malkauns raag visible . If there is confusion, then the Use of Pancham removes its confusion. The chaya of Asavari begins to appear when Nishad is forbidden in Aaroh. In the end, the Raag Gopika Basant becomes clear with the use of Sa Ma.
