Bhatiyar raag is believed to have originated from Bilawal thaat. Re(k) is used as komal swar and both Madhayam are used in this raag. Nishad is used less in Aaroh. Its jati is Wakra -Sampurn and its chalan is Wakra. In this raag Ma & Sa are Vadi & Samvadi swar .The singing time of this raag is 3 am to 6 am (the last hours of the night).

Avaroh-  Re(k)* – Ni [Dha Pa Ma], Pa Ga Pa Ga Re(k) – Sa.

Pakad- Sa Dha – Dha [Pa – Pa Ma], Pa Ga, Pa Ga Re(k) – Sa.

Thaat- Bilawal thaat

Jati- Wakra -Sampurn

Vadi-Samvadi swar- Ma and Sa

Important notes:-

1This is a raag of Wakra jati. In this we go straight from Shadaj to Dhaivat which is madhur.

2.Raag Bhatiyaar is forcibly placed in Marva thaat. Shudh Madhyam is pradhan swar in this raag and Shudh Madhayam are not use in marva. From point of view it’s not closed to marva.

3.The association of Dha, Dha Ma Re(k) Ni and Pa Ga show again and again. These associations is melody.

4.We have mentioned above that both madhyam are used in this. There’s less use of twira ma with Dhaivat. As Ma(t) Dha Sa. To go to the higher octave these swar are used. Shudh madhayam are used very well in aaroh and avaroh. To come to the middle Sa, we come Madhyam to Pancham and then we come back using Ga Re(k) Sa. Also do free nyas on shudh madhyam.

5.There is a another Bhatiyar raag which is genrated from Khamaj thaat which has very less publicity. Only this Bhatiyar is promted generated from Marva thaat describe above.

6.Some singers are used both Dhaivat in this raag. Only shudh Dhevat are used in promoted Bhatiyaar raag.

7.Ma(t) Dha Sa*, Ma(t) Dha Re(k) Sa* swar are used to go to the higher octave.
