Early Life –

• His real name was Vrindavan Prasad. His father’s name was Durga Prasad.
• Bindadin Maharaj had two brothers. The name of the second brother was Kalka Prasad.
• Kalka Prasad had three sons – Achhan, Lachhu and Shambhu Maharaj and Bindadin. Maharaj had no son.
• He gave good dance lessons to his nephew Achchan Maharaj.
• Maharaj Bindadin got dance education from his father Durga Prasad and uncle Thakur Prasad.
• Started learning dance from the age of nine and kept practicing only ‘Tigda Digdig’ for four years. Used to practice for 12-12 hours daily.

Career –

• Once in the court of Nawab Wajid Ali Shah, you met the famous Pakhavji Kodau Singh.
• Thakur Prasad, who was already appointed in his court, became very worried lest it should happen that because of Bindadin, his head should be low.
• On one side, twelve year old Bindadin and on the other side, Pakhawaj Samrat Kodau Singh.
• Taking the name of God, he made Bindadin stand up. Everyone was surprised to see his dance that his preparation was no less than that of Kodau Singh.
• Growing up, Bindadin Maharaj earned great fame and wealth. Bindadin Maharaj was as proficient in thumri singing as he was in dancing.
• It is said that he composed 1500 new thumris. Even today his Thumris are sung with respect.
• The pair of Kalika Bindadin was very famous and used to create panic wherever they went.
